LUMO LMCB300 High-Voltage Control Box

Central control, communication and Level 4 protection for high-voltage energy storage

The LUMO LMCB300 High-Voltage Control Box is the control and protection centre for LUMO commercial and industrial battery systems. Designed for DC systems up to 1000 V and 160 A maximum working current, it connects the high-voltage battery string with the PCS or hybrid inverter while coordinating battery communication, system monitoring and smart-breaker protection.

Paired with the LUMO intelligent BMS, the LMCB300 monitors battery operating conditions, communicates with external equipment and provides the final physical disconnection layer in LUMO’s Level 4 Protection architecture. This integrated approach helps protect battery cells against abnormal operation, simplifies remote diagnosis and gives installers a clearer record of system events.

Precision control for high-voltage applications

The LMCB300 provides the central operating interface between the battery modules, BMS, PCS or inverter and cloud platform. It collects battery-system information, coordinates communications and allows the protection system to respond when voltage, current, temperature or state-of-charge conditions move outside the approved operating window.

With a maximum system rating of 1000 V DC and 160 A, the control cabinet is designed for scalable commercial and industrial storage systems built from LUMO OMS51314 battery modules. The 100 A recommended operating current supports dependable continuous operation, while the 160 A maximum working-current rating provides capacity for higher-power system conditions within the approved design limits.

Level 4 physical protection

Most battery protection strategies rely on warnings, current limits and a BMS-controlled cut-off. LUMO adds a final physical protection layer through the smart breaker installed in the high-voltage control cabinet.

When the battery reaches 0% SOC or an extreme-depletion condition, continued discharge can threaten the cells and eventually deprive the BMS of its own operating power. The LUMO protection sequence records the abnormal event and trips the smart breaker to stop further energy drain.

The four protection levels are:

Level Action Protection purpose
Level 1 Warning Detect abnormal voltage, current or temperature.
Level 2 Current limiting Reduce charge or discharge current before damage occurs.
Level 3 BMS cut-off Stop normal operation through BMS-controlled protection.
Level 4 Smart-breaker trip Physically disconnect the high-voltage battery when a critical condition requires a final isolation layer.

Level 4 Protection is LUMO’s product architecture name. It is not presented as a universal IEC or industry protection classification.

Seamless system communication

The LMCB300 supports RS485, RS232 and CAN communication for integration with the LUMO BMS, compatible PCS and hybrid inverter platforms. Built-in Wi-Fi extends the control architecture to the cloud, giving authorized service teams access to battery status, operating history, alarms and protection events.

This connected architecture supports:

  • Battery-to-inverter communication
  • Cell, pack and system-status reporting
  • SOC and SOH visibility
  • Alarm and protection-event records
  • Remote operating-data review
  • Remote diagnosis and service support
  • Cloud-assisted adaptive balancing workflows

Actual inverter compatibility and communication protocol must be confirmed for the selected inverter model and project configuration.

Designed for dependable C&I operation

The control cabinet uses an air-cooled design and is specified for operation from -20°C to 65°C. Its 8 W control-system power consumption minimizes auxiliary energy demand, while the compact enclosure supports integration into LUMO single-column and double-column high-voltage battery racks.

An IP20 protection rating makes the LMCB300 suitable for protected indoor electrical installations. It must be installed inside an appropriate battery room, cabinet or enclosure where it is protected from water, dust exposure beyond the IP20 rating and unauthorized contact.

Serviceability and long-term system protection

The LMCB300 is designed for a service life of more than 15 years under appropriate operating and installation conditions. Real-time system information and cloud-based event records help service teams identify abnormal depletion, communication issues, inverter-setting problems and battery-protection events before they develop into larger failures.

Instead of relying only on a local alarm, the system creates a traceable operating history. This gives installers and system owners a stronger evidence base for maintenance decisions, configuration reviews and fault diagnosis.
